Why is My Car Leaking Water?

Aston Martin New Vantage

Is your car leaking water? Usually, water leaks are harmless and caused by condensation from a running air conditioning system. Small puddles of water found near the back of the engine compartment are normal. Exhaust condensation can also create small puddles near the tailpipe, which dissipate as the muffler heats up. Other types of fluid leaks, however, point to the need for immediate Aston Martin service. Below, you’ll learn more about how to identify fluids and water leaking from under a car and what to do about it!

What Are the Causes of a Car Leaking Water?

Do you suspect the fluid leaking from under your car is just water? Here’s how you can tell:

  • First, set a sheet of white paper under the car leak. If the droplets are transparent, it’s water and likely not a cause for concern. If the fluid is blue, green, or yellow, there’s a very good chance it’s coolant.
  • While a small amount of exhaust condensation is normal, large puddles could be a sign of a blown gasket. Coolant is likely being burned with the fuel. This can cause excessive water leaks and white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.
  • When you have a coolant leak, it’s usually easy to tell based on the color of the liquid. Still, you’ll want to check the coolant level to be sure. If it’s low, schedule a service visit at Aston Martin Austin near San Antonio.
  • It’s also possible that the leak is coming from a cracked windshield wiper fluid reservoir. This happens when water gets into the windshield wiper fluid. When the water freezes in the reservoir, it expands and cracks the plastic. Windshield wiper fluid is light blue or green, and leaks are typically found by the front tires.

To summarize: if the leak isn’t condensation, it’s a good idea to schedule a service appointment at our service center to address the problem before it worsens.
